Moving in Time: images of life in democratic South Africa
AUTHOR: George Hallett
AUTHOR: George Hallett
INTRODUCTION: Mandla Langa
CO-PUBLICATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF KWA-ZULU/NATAL PRESS
Moving in time vividly portrays a country that reinvented itself during the first decade of its democracy. The book contains a selection of photographs by various South African photographers who capture the spirit of the country during this exciting and challenging period. The photographs are not only positive, they also realistically reflect poverty, unemployment, crime and the ravages of HIV/AIDS. Overwhelmingly, though, they depict a vibrant society that has turned diversity into an asset. The images also celebrate the achievement of ' a people who have come out of a storm', as Mandla Langa writes in the introduction.
